One Saturday morning, my mom was busy doing something and my dad and I were bored so we did what we always do when we are bored. We went ADVENTURING! We weren't really sure where we wanted to go until my dad suggested a small county park about 60 miles away from home. It is called Niagara County Park and would be completely unremarkable if it weren't for one thing: The entire Santiam River squinches down to pass between two rocks that are only 4 feet 3 inches apart!

The river normally is pretty big and to see it go through there is amazing! I guess not many people know about it because we didn't see anyone else there when we were there and my dad says that he has never seen anyone there before either. Not only is there the amazing scene of the whole entire river going through this small crack, but a long time ago someone built some pretty cool stone work. My dad said that he hadn't really ever seen it before when he had been here but he must have not been paying much attention because it was pretty old.

After we left Niagara County Park, we continued along the old highway until we got to
Detroit Lake and Dam. We walked across the dam and watched the water going over the spillway.

Continuing East along the Highway we eventually got to Sisters, Oregon and then we went on to bend to see the
Newberry Volcano and Lava Field. There is a trail through part of the lava field and it looks like I would expect the Moon to look if you were there. Nothing but lava rocks everywhere. There is a lookout tower at the top of the volcano rim and there are some nice views up there.

We had heard about some ice caves in the area but we were running low on time so that will have to be an adventure for another day. We did go a little further to see some huge rapids on the Deschutes River. They were pretty cool, but we had about a 3 hour drive to get home and mom was expecting us. We need to go back and more thoroughly explore this very interesting part of Oregon.
