My dad
stumbled on a great adventure one day. He was 'surfing the net' and
discovered a place called
Bandy's Troll Haven.
After reading about it a little bit on line, we decided that we needed to go and
see it for ourselves. We wanted to get the whole family to go on this
adventure, but Mom had a class she had to go to and my brother and sister both
had to work. That left just me and my dad.
We left our house one Saturday morning in June bright and early.
In fact, we left at the official adventuring hour, 4:00am. We were headed
to Sequim, (pronounced 'squim'. Why? I don't know, ask a Sequimian.)
Washington. Actually we later found out that we were really headed for
Gardiner Beach, Washington, but they are pretty close together. Sequim is
between Port Townsend and Port Angeles at the very top of the Olympic Peninsula.
It takes nearly 5 hours to get there, so leaving at 4:00 am was a pretty good
idea.
I got to sleep in the car until almost 8:00am and when I woke up
we were driving along
Hood
Canal. It was very pretty and there were lots of little towns along
the way.
About 9:30 we got to Sequim and stopped for gas and to ask
directions. We had the address, but the street didn't show on our map and
my dad forgot the GPS. Everyone we asked knew about the Troll Haven, but
nobody really knew how to get there. While we were driving around, we
stumbled on what my dad thought was the funniest thing he had ever seen. I
dont really see what is so funny, it is just a street corner, but my dad says
that in a few years I will get it. He says that the street sign is
'typical male bathroom humor'. Whatever. Click here to see the
street sign if you dare. Dad says that it
is rated PG.
Anyway, we were just driving down this street and we sort of came up over
a little hill and we saw the trolls! I have seen things that have been
carved with a chainsaw before but this was in a whole other league. These
carved and painted trolls were huge! There was a hay barn and the giant
corner pillars were all carved to look like trolls.
Along with the trolls there were a couple of dragons, a castle that you can rent
for the night, and a really cool gate with dragons on it too. We took as
many pictures as we could but there was no where to park since it was just a
farm on an old farm road.
On the way home we drove across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, better known as
'Galloping Gertie'. Well, not the original
Galloping Gertie since it fell down not long after it was first built.
This was the second bridge. Luckily I had not seen the video of the bridge
falling down or I dont know if I would have liked going across! Lucky for
us, we were able to cross safely.
Sometimes my dad has pretty good ideas.
